A History of Cleanliness

Principal Consultant, Michael Knight, is the great-great-great-grandson of the best known English soap maker of the 19th century, John Knight (1793-1864). Around 1818 he opened a soap works at Wapping and pioneered the manufacture of quality soap accessible to the general public. His newer and larger factory, Knight’s Royal Primrose Soap Works on the Thames in East London, was eventually absorbed by Unilever. The site was later redeveloped into a trendy residential area.
